Crafts, Tips And Other Things!

Nature Eggs

What you need: Brown blown out eggs or wooden eggs; toothpicks, craft glue, leaves and or dried pressed flowers; decoupage medium or spray varnish.

What to do:

1. If using brown eggs, blow them out. You may use white eggs and dip them in steeped tea to turn them brown. You may also use wooden eggs for this project.

2. Take the toothpick and dip it in the craft glue then dot it onto the leaves or flowers you have chosen, then apply the leaf or flower to the egg glue side down and allow to dry completely.

3. When eggs are completely dry, completely cover with a coat of spray varnish or decoupage medium to preserve your creations.

Mini Easter Bunny Baskets

These little Easter favors delight both children and adults alike. They are great for Easter party favors as well as egg hunts.

Materials: Miniature novelty baskets (available at craft supply stores); White pom-poms (size for the head on baskets shown above); Bag of mini Jelly Beans (Tiny gourmet Jelly Beans work well too); Scraps of gingham or desired fabric ( for ears); hot glue gun and glue sticks; googly eyes; Pink and white miniature pom-poms.

Instruction:

1. Draw an ear shape on paper. Size of ear should be appropriate for the size of the white pom-pom, which will be the bunny head. (See Photo Above).

2. Cut 4 ear shapes from fabric, as many as needed since two ears for each basket used will be needed.

3. Sew two fabric ear shapes together, make two. Glue the 2 ears onto the top of the white pom-pom.

4. Glue googly eyes in the appropriate location on the white pom-pom and one small pink pom-pom centered just below the eyes. (See photo above)

5. Glue the white pom-pom head to one end of the basket and another white pom-pom to the other end of the basket.

6. Fill the basket with Jelly Beans.

Yarn Chicks

These are so adorable and easy to make. Make several and place them in Easter baskets.

Size: About 2 1/2" high.

Materials: Yellow nylon and wool fingering yarn, 1 skein for all. Pipe cleaner. Scraps of felt in yellow and dark brown or black. All-purpose glue. Cardboard.

Chicks body: Wind yarn 115 times around a 2" piece of cardboard. Remove cardboard. Place a 2 1/2" piece of pipe cleaner across yarn; tie tightly around center. Bend pipe cleaner ends to form legs. Cut loops and trim into a ball, leaving hack strands longer to form a tail.

Head: Wind yarn 75 times around a 1" piece of cardboard. Remove cardboard; tie tightly around center. Cut loops and trim into a ball.

Fishing: Part yarn slightly in front of body and glue head to body. Glue five 4" strands of yarn, folded in half, to each side of body for wings. Glue two small pieces of black or brown felt to head for eyes. Complete half-patterns indicated by dash lines. From yellow felt, cut beak; fold in half on solid line and glue to front of head. Cut two leg and foot pieces as one: cut two separate bottom foot pieces, cutting out at dotted line. Fold leg in half lengthwise, slitting felt slightly on each side near foot. Glue around pipe cleaner legs. With cleaner between, glue bottom foot to upper foot. Bend leg tops around center strip on body pompon.

Raggedy  Eggs

What you need: Plastic eggs; Fabric scraps in colors of choice (print or plain pastels) 1/8 yd per 2 eggs; Pinking Shears; Craft glue.

What to do:

1. With pinking shears cut fabric in 1/4" wide strips. Glue tip of fabric strip to center of egg and hold in place with finger. Wrap fabric around egg in criss-cross directions making sure to cover starting point several times (at which point you would remove your finger.) When  strip is completed, glue down the other end.

2. Repeat this process until egg is completely covered. Then proceed to the next egg.

3. When all eggs are completed, place in a colorful Easter basket for centerpiece.
